Is it safe to eat? I have been eating it breaded. I ocassionally have had clam strips which are breaded also. Someone told me that its not okay to eat, but my doctor never mentioned anything. I have a doctors appt next week and I will ask about it. What do you guys say? Yes No?

I know shrimp is fine since its small. You have to avoid the big fish like some tunas and shark, etc. As for clams im not sure.

I havent had any other fish besides shrimp, no tuna or anything. I guess I will just ask about clams. I guess I will just hold off until I see my Dr.
by AstrachancaNovember 16, 2012 at 3:44 AMShrimp is fine.
My doctor doesn't have a problem with me eating tuna as long as its in moderation. He even lets me eat raw sushi! I wouldn't worry!
Shrimp is fine. It's actually a good source of iron! The reasons certain seafood are avoided: raw or undercooked foods increase the chances of food poisoning; some fish are high in mercury, so should be avoided or well-cooked, at least. These fish are larger, eat other fish and live longer before theyre caught, so they have more time to build up mercury. Shrimp is small and doesn't live long, so it's relatively free from toxins. I would only avoid it during pregnancy if I had never had it before and therefore don't know about a possible allergy to it.
by auntkk1984November 16, 2012 at 12:12 PMIf u have questions about fish during pregnancy go to dhec.gov/fish. It'll ask what kind of fish and where it is from. It'll tell u if its safe or not.

It is fine in moderation I do not eat it raw only cooked. I eat sushi but I make it at home with imitation crab. Tuna is ok so long as it is only 12oz a day or less. Fish is a great source of Iron and Omega 3 fatty acids! Good for brain development and good to help thin the blood when pregnant!
by pixiedust11November 16, 2012 at 5:46 PMit's fine no more than twice a week and in moderation. I asked my doctor too. my diet composes mostly of fish.

Awsome! I didnt think anything was wrong with it. I really dont eat it alot. After I ate the clams my stomach felt funny, I dunno what it was. I will give the seafood a break for a little while, but now that I know its alright, then awesome. I was just worried it wasnt safe for baby! Thanks Ladies
