Wealth Inequality in America
March 7, 2013 at 4:15 PM

Well, I'm a dirty socialist/anarchist/communal-tribal-small-scale-utopiast, so I obviously think this is fucked.

What do you think?

How fucked up do you think this wealth inequality in the US is?

    For what it's worth, I don't think you're a shithead :)

I do, however, think wealth inequality is a serious issues with serious consequences in society that will lead to big problems. I think the system is fucked up and flawed.

I can see both sides of this. You've got people like my DH and I who came from poverty and have worked our butts off making smart financial decisions to get where we are.

Then you have my state. My wonderful state where they turn away businesses that want to come here and create jobs because they don't want anything to change. Why would they, right now they have all the money. They are shit heads.

I don't think anyone is upset about people who work hard and save. I think people are upset with the ridiculously low interest rates the Fed is keeping that screwing over the elderly that saved all their lives. I think people are tired of the Fed printing billions of dollars every month to bail out the banks, I think we're on QE4, which is going to cause a dangerous, inflationary environment. People are already watching the price of necessities rise dramatically. When gas goes over $5 a gallon, that is going to destroy what little of the middle class that's left. The wealthy will be fine where they excess savings to invest in commodities and the stock market. DOW hit another all time high today.

You do realize almost no one says anything like that?

I am about as far liberal as you can go when it comes to economics and I don't say that, nor do any of my friends.

We do point out the Inequality when the GOP/Republicans try to hold 98% of America Hostage so the top 2% can keep their tax cuts/loopholes.

I do have a problem with the GOP/Republicans who try to raise taxes on the lower 97% percant of America so they can keep the taxes on the top 2% low.

I do understand how Capitalism works. And that it functions best and most smoothly when the middle class is strong and big. Right now we are so screwed that you can be in the top 97% of our country and be considered middle class.

It's not that the middle class is shrinking it's that it is losing buying power because all the money is being bundled up at the very top.

And for some odd reason the people at the very top have tax rates lower than that of the people at the bottom and some corporations pay 0% taxes.

Then you got the bankers who are too big to fail, and too big to charge or put on trial.

Bankers can gamble and if they mess up we will bail them out. They can commit fraud, and swindle people. And if they are unlucky they will have to pay a portion of the profits back.

    Yes.

    Doesn't change what I think.

My family has busted their ass for what they have and I hate this idea that somehow it isn't fair that others have more.  Yes, many, many people have used the system and their access to get favorable tax laws or treatment.

But taking from others to give others more is never a good thing.

I posted a thread about a football player that will have to pay 51% of his salary in federal, state, and local taxes alone.   No one posted on it.   It is wrong to take over 50% of what he earns in order to make things more equal.
