Should people be able to force them to perform a ceremony?

You haven't read a bunch of lawsuits if you think you can't be sued for something you did not say but something the person things you believe or did.

If the judge is against the unions, fine, as long as he doesn't use it as a soapbox moment. Or attempt to embarrass the hell out of them. You can't accuse them of something if they don't say it.

That doesn't answer the question I asked. If a judge is not required to perform the ceremony but can choose to perform it, should the judge be sued if they turn down the ceremony for whatever reason they want?

Why would someone even want to go into an establishment (like a church) that doesn't believe in the same things they do and demand that?!? Of course pastors (religious figures) shouldn't be able to be sued for following their religion...lol

Because the laws of the state supercede personal feelings. When a judge becomes a judge, they swear to uphold the laws of their state.

churches and pastors, no. Judges, yes. They are public officials.

Preachers are generally paid for their services in a wedding. If they don't want to marry someone because of a personal conviction, they don't have to take the job. No one can force them to. Perhaps it's different for a judge, I don't know. But for a preacher, it's a voluntary service. They can do what they want.
