Dallas police have released graphic video of a store clerk being beaten with multiple hammers in hopes that someone may recognize the robber.

Dallas police are calling the beating of a grocery store clerk a brutal, senseless robbery.

The clerk was beaten with multiple hammers at a grocery store on Military Parkway in Dallas.

The Dallas Police Department released graphic video of the crime, only because investigators believe someone may recognize the robber.

Police said the robber walked into the AZ Mart in Southeast Dallas at about 10 a.m. Wednesday.

For some reason, the clerk came out from behind the protective glass, and the robber slashed his throat. He dragged the clerk down an aisle stocked with hardware and proceeded to beat the clerk with several hammers.

"Not often do we see a robbery where the robber gets the money," Deputy Chief Sherryl Scott said. "Normally, the robber runs off but, in this case, he actually stayed and commenced to beating our complainant with a hammer."

Police canvassed the neighborhood where the crime happened. From talking to people, investigators believe the robber may have been one of the store's regular customers.

Police said the man got away with some cash, although they are not certain how much.

At last check, the clerk had been upgraded from critical to serious condition at a Dallas hospital.

Police said his injuries are so bad that he is unable to speak with investigators.

Anyone with information about the case is asked to contact Detective Shelton at 214-671-3612. Anyone who wishes to remain anonymous can call Crime Stoppers at 214-373-TIPS.

According to the FBI annual crime statistics, the number of murders committed annually with hammers and clubs far outnumbers the number of murders committed with a rifle.

This is an interesting fact, particularly amid the Democrats' feverish push to ban many different rifles, ostensibly to keep us safe of course.

However, it appears the zeal of Sens. like Dianne Feinstein (D-CA) and Joe Manchin (D-WV) is misdirected. For in looking at the FBI numbers from 2005 to 2011, the number of murders by hammers and clubs consistently exceeds the number of murders committed with a rifle.

Think about it: In 2005, the number of murders committed with a rifle was 445, while the number of murders committed with hammers and clubs was 605. In 2006, the number of murders committed with a rifle was 438, while the number of murders committed with hammers and clubs was 618.

And so the list goes, with the actual numbers changing somewhat from year to year, yet the fact that more people are killed with blunt objects each year remains constant.

For example, in 2011, there was 323 murders committed with a rifle but 496 murders committed with hammers and clubs.

While the FBI makes is clear that some of the "murder by rifle" numbers could be adjusted up slightly, when you take into account murders with non-categorized types of guns, it does not change the fact that their annual reports consistently show more lives are taken each year with these blunt objects than are taken with Feinstein's dreaded rifle.

Another interesting fact: According to the FBI, nearly twice as many people are killed by hands and fists each year than are killed by murderers who use rifles.

The bottom line: A rifle ban is as illogical as it is unconstitutional. We face far greater danger from individuals armed with carpenters' tools and a caveman's stick.

And it seems fairly obvious that if more people had a gun, less people would be inclined to try to hit them in the head with a hammer.

I hope he is ok... Crime will always happen no matter if we have gun control or not

More crime will happen with gun control because the criminals will still have their guns.   I guess the same could be said if we enacted hammer control.  The criminals would not give up their hammers

Hammers don't fit the agenda.  Plus the government spends $200 on a hammer and that would put the kabosh of a slush fund of a politician

Not quite true.  Oh, sure - if you just look at rifles.  And subtract the handguns, shotguns, etc.

    http://www2.fbi.gov/ucr/cius2009/offenses/expanded_information/data/shrtable_08.html

As you can plainly see, the total number of homicides committed by firearm EVERY year is far greater than that of homicides committed by ANY other item, including blunt objects like hammers.

Plus it was an adult that was hammered.   Unless it is a child, it doesn't fit into his agenda.  They make much better props.
