Dallas police are calling the beating of a grocery store clerk a brutal, senseless robbery.
The clerk was beaten with multiple hammers at a grocery store on Military Parkway in Dallas.
The Dallas Police Department released
graphic video of the crime, only because investigators believe someone
may recognize the robber.
Police said the robber walked into the AZ Mart in Southeast Dallas at about 10 a.m. Wednesday.
For some reason, the clerk came out
from behind the protective glass, and the robber slashed his throat. He
dragged the clerk down an aisle stocked with hardware and proceeded to
beat the clerk with several hammers.
"Not often do we see a robbery where
the robber gets the money," Deputy Chief Sherryl Scott said. "Normally,
the robber runs off but, in this case, he actually stayed and commenced
to beating our complainant with a hammer."
Police canvassed the neighborhood
where the crime happened. From talking to people, investigators believe
the robber may have been one of the store's regular customers.
Police said the man got away with some cash, although they are not certain how much.
At last check, the clerk had been upgraded from critical to serious condition at a Dallas hospital.
Police said his injuries are so bad that he is unable to speak with investigators.
