Long story short, a 17yo girl was caught looking at porn, which is totally normal, and her parents freaked and assumed she was a defective perv, so she made up a story to explain her perversion and said she was molested by a neighbor kid when she was little, and the innocent guy spent years in prison for child molestation.

I agree that what they did was obviously wrong but disagree that porn is totally normal. Perhaps "normal" as defined as "everyone does it" but not normal as defined as healthy and harmless. -
Ummmm, that's sounds more like what happens when you are a liar. To say this issue is her parents problem with porn is disingenuous.

Right? I'm pretty sure what actually happens when you equate porn with perversion is you get a kid who isn't allowed unsupervised access to the Internet until they move out. STOP THE PRESSES!!

Who ever defined normal as healthy and harmless? And I never said porn is normal, although I think it is fine. I said that a 17 year old looking at porn is normal. Teenagers are naturally curious about sex and when a teenager has unlimited access to porn (ie, a computer they can ever look at for 5 minutes without being watched), it's normal for them to look at porn. And when a parent goes all "Why would you look at that, what's wrong with you, what happened to make you want to see that?!", it's also normal for a kid to want to explain it away rather than tell the truth. Saying "Um, I was curious about sex. No big deal," when your parents are thinking there must be something immoral and terribly wrong with you probably isn't what a kid would do. This isn't a lying problem; it's a parents are overreacting problem.

I agree that the issue is that the parents overreacted (by lying, which is why I said it was a lying problem) but the point that I was trying to make is that this happened because the parents went to far, not because it is wrong to equate porn with perversion, as the title of the thread suggests.
