Autism/Asperger's/PDD Support

Dear Mothers of Children with Autism,
My name is Laura Davis and I am a clinical psychology doctoral student researching the use of online support among mothers of children with autism. I am requesting your participation in this research! As you are well aware, mothers of children with autism face numerous challenges that may contribute to increased parenting-related stress. Support from fellow parents of children with autism appears especially beneficial to overall coping and is being increasingly sought through web-based social networks. Unfortunately, little research has investigated the impact of Internet-based support on the emotional health of mothers of children with autism. We hope the results from this study will help inform and enhance family-centered planning and care for children and parents affected by autism. Your participation would be greatly appreciated!
You are invited to participate in this research if you are a mother or primary female caregiver to a child diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder (i.e., autism, Asperger's disorder, or PDD, NOS). We are especially interested in hearing from mothers who participate in autism-focused online social networking (such as this CafeMom group); however, any mother of a child with an autism spectrum disorder at home is invited to participate.
I sincerely hope you will consider completing the online survey, which should take no more than 20 minutes of your time. Your responses are anonymous. For each mother who participates, $1 will be donated to the Autism Speaks organization. Participants are also eligible to receive one of twenty $20 gift cards to Amazon.com, following survey completion.
If you meet eligibility criteria and agree to participate, please send an email to autismdissertation728@gmail.com. An automated response will be immediately sent to you with the study link and password. Your email address will in no way be linked to your survey responses and will be used strictly for the purposes of accessing the study and, if you so choose, registering for the gift card drawing. If you do participate, please respond to the survey only one time.
Thank you for considering participating in this study! Please feel free to contact me at the email address below if you have any questions or concerns about this research.
Sincerely,
Laura A. Davis, M.A.; Clinical Psychology Doctoral Candidate; The University of South Dakota; Email: Laura.Mair@usd.edu; Phone: 605-677-5353

Thank you for your question! Yes, Dawn has requested that when the study is complete that I bring back the results to share with the group. This will occur in the spring, likely late April or early May when the study is complete (fingers crossed!!). And, of course, your responses are anonymous, so results will be shared in group format only. Thank you again for your interest, and feel free to let me know if you have additional questions.
Best,
Laura Davis

Slightly off topic = but are you also interested in autistic mothers who are raising special needs kids, or just NT moms?
