Cole Slaw Dressing Recipe
Tangy Cole SlawD. RattrayAn easy cole slaw dressing, this is enough to dress about 1 medium head of shredded or chopped cabbage.
- 1 1/4 cup mayonnaise
- 1/3 cup sugar
- 1/4 cup cider vinegar
- 1/4 teaspoon celery seed
- 1/2 teaspoon Creole seasoning or seasoned salt
- 1/4 teaspoon black pepper
- salt, to taste
Preparation:Combine all ingredients in a jar; shake well. Refrigerate for about an hour; dress shredded cabbage. This makes enough for about 1 medium head of cabbage. I add a little grated carrot and onion to the mixture, or you could use green cabbage with a little red cabbage.
by sunshinemaryJune 28, 2013 at 5:25 AMSimple...LOVE coleslaw, especially with sloppy joe's! Mayo (a better, thick, rich like Best Foods/Hellmann's) Salt Pepper Squirt of lemon juice (you don't want it too runny) Optional: A pinch of Coriander (good with cucumbers, too) or, my favorite..... Chili powder to taste (it doesn't make it spicy, just mellows out the eggs in the mayo) plus gives it a little color. I'm curious about the other suggestions....may have to try some of them out! P.S.- If you like juicy coleslaw, then grate your own cabbage and carrots. If you like it a little stiffer, buy the dryer, precut/prepackaged ready to mix coleslaw.
1 pkg old fashioned coleslaw mix (only use as much as you need)
2 slices of tomato (averge thickness)... diced
2 green onions ... diced (I use the whole thing)
The following is "to your taste" b/c I never measure it:
Mustard (go very lightly on this)
Salad dressing (my secret ingredient):
blue cheese or ranch (bacon or cucumber is best, but plain works)
You can cut up the stuff from the bag or leave it uncut ... I do both depending on my mood. Add tomato and onion, stir. Add mayo, mustard, salad dressing, stir. Then add the rest.
I get told that I have to either bring my slaw or don't bother showing up when it comes to cookouts or family dinners.
