Principal Who Plans to Hire Adult Film Star to Teach Sex-Ed Is Brilliant

by Ericka Sóuter

XXXTalk about a progressive teaching plan. A high school principal at a private school in England wants porn stars to teach sex education to students. This will initially freak out any parent -- myself included. It's outrageous, to be sure, but brilliant too. Here's why.

No one knows more about sex than someone who has sex for a living. I know. I know. Who the heck would want a porn star to teach their kids anything? Most of us can't even fathom agreeing to having a known porn star teaching anything nor acting as a role model in any way, shape, or form. But one thing that I have learned in my five short years as a parent is to broaden my perspective. There is no longer one time-honored/tested way to do things these days. Who knows about the dangers of sex better than a porn star? In a way, it’s like asking a champion boxer for boxing tips ... well, kind of.

Principal Mark Slater sees a real value in the lessons a "pro" could provide. Certainly listening to someone who has to navigate such a dangerous, sex-filled industry would have an impact. I am sure every single student would show up for this particular guest lecture just to get a glimpse of a porn star. But wide-eyed fascination is only half of it. She (or he, I suppose) can provide real-life examples of what can happen if you don't protect yourself.

I know many of us would rather our kids just not have intercourse at all. But truth of the matter is, kids are having sex. Even worse, they are having unprotected sex. Sure, those health textbooks go through a laundry lists of diseases, but that still doesn't scare enough teens into abstinence or using a condom. This could work better than traditional sex ed lessons have been. Why not give it a chance.

Well if parents aren't doing their job, who do you suggest teaches our children? Sexuality is a normal part of life, nothing to be ashamed of. We just need to teach our children correctly. Is a porn star a great teacher, perhaps not perhaps it will be one sided and only about the pleasure part of sex and not the intimacy. This just brings to light parents need to step up, Period.

I don't see why not, just becuase they did something that we do all the time, but did it on camera doesn't make them a bad person or even a bad teacher.

A porn star might know a lot about sex, but that doesn't mean they know a lot about anatomy, health related issues, conception, pregnancy, birth, emotional factors, etc.  This is just stupid.  What teenager would even take them seriously?  Kids are too sexed up these days anyways.  And now a school official thinks it's a good idea to stick a porn star in the class room as a teacher and example of what's proper or acceptable??  Sex ed isn't about teaching kids how to have sex.  It's about INFORMATION.  A porn star is not going to have any training on communicating with kids.  This is just wrong in so many ways.

First of all England is more sexual than we ar ein the USA, so for England it is a great idea. Personaly I would mind if it was oppisite gender of the students. A male pron star teaching male studenst and a female porn star teaching female students wouldn't bother me. Sex Ed isn't about teaching the child HOW to have sex, but to teach them about safe-sex options, concequences of unsafe sex (STD's and pregnacies). I think the best person to teach sex ed to a child is the parents and a nurse/doctor when they are young. However when they are actually at the age to engage in sex, I would think a porn star would have insight on real life reason to practice safe sex and have real life stories of the concequences not just pictures and hypotheticals.

yeah, I don't think it's a bad idea. Lots of kids are exposed to porn whether their parents like it or not. I think it would actually be good for kids to hear from a porn star that pornography isn't exactly an accurate representation of what normal adult sex looks like a lot of the time. and they know the ins and outs of things. Sorry for the pun, couldn't resist.

Are you serious?  I wouldn't want a porn star near my kids.  The principal is nuts.

The way most people tend to shy away from sex education these days, their kids are probably already learning from porn stars. Just not in the right way.

I believe in being open about all things sex, because it's my responsibility to make sure my child has the right information and is fully aware and comfortable about making responsible choices when they come around. Not doing so is completely irresponsible. And if a porn star is going to teach them what I would as far as what forms of contraception are available, where they can get them, what the symptoms are for STDS, how to say no, how to not feel guilted/pressured into saying yes, how their reproductive system works, and how they can get more information from a doctor or their parents without feeling like they're being judged, then I say absolutely yes to a porn star teaching sex ed.

As long as they were interviewed and held to the same sense of accountability every teacher should be, then I'd fully support it.
