'Teen Mom' Amber in Prison Recap: Sober Amber Is a Different Person

Amber Portwood jailThe Teen Mom special Amber Behind Bars finally ran Tuesday night after so much speculation. Dr. Drew went to the prison to visit Amber and there is no doubt that Amber Portwood is doing better than any of us could have even imagined.

First of all, holy hell. She is sober. And wow. That is different. Her entire personality is different off of drugs and it is alarming that so much of what we saw on Teen Mom was Amber in full drugged out mode.

The story is not surprising. Most of it we already knew. But Amber's change is marked and pronounced and some of her admissions about Leah are just sad.

I had no idea that she was such an addict that she would say she cared more about scoring drugs than loving her child.

That has nothing to do with her being a teen mother and everything to do with her having a bad childhood and being unable to manage her emotions. It is a sad and unfortunate reality that Amber had a lot of growing to do as a person in order to be a good mom.

As guilty as she feels, though, for not being honest with Leah about where she is, for abandoning her, for letting her down, and for not doing visits, in the end, if Amber gets better, it is the best gift she can give to her child to get well.

Throughout the seasons, I have never once doubted that Amber is a mom who loves her child. Even at her worst, she always had an obvious, palpable love for little Leah.

Choosing prison may seem insane to some, but the haters have to recognize that she seemed better tonight than she has ever been. If prison will really help her change, then it was the best decision she could have made.

Hopefully she is released faster, too.

Do you think Amber seemed good?

I think this is the best thing for her honestly. To get sober and get some help. So sad... I didn't watch it but I will be watching it today online, if I can find it.

I haven't watched the show yet, I have it recorded to watch tonight.

I have to admit, I've always recorded the teen mom shows, and I would just fast forward past Amber's part, because I couldn't stand to watch it.

I'm all for getting better and being a good person , and mother. I hope for her sake and her child's that she is better and continues to stay clean and stay focused on being a good parent and person in general.

Who am I to doubt her or trash talk her? We've all made bad choices in our life, you can't judge someone based on a bad choice.. It's what they do after the bad choice that matters the most. Did they pick them self up , wipe the bullshit away and reach for a better path, or did they continue with bad choices?

I won't judge this girl, until the outcome in clear. AS for now, I wish her nothing but the best.

She does seem to be in a better place. She still has a long time to go in there and will miss 3-5 yrs with Leah. Good for her for realizing she needed MAJOR help! She seems more honest then ever. Those patches she was starting to use are VERY bad. I had a good friend overdose in one. I pray for her and her family!

I used to fast forward through her parts too. Much too painful to watch. I hope she gets better!

I actually like her now after seeing that interview. I've never had any respect for her, but I also didn't know that she had such an extensive drug problem. She seems to be in a much better place and seems like she can make common sense decisions now. I hope things work out for her. Her little girl is so adorable and I feel bad that she doesn't have her mommy.

I personally believe she should stay in prison the whole 5 years and go to a sober-living facility afterwards. I've seen too many parents go to prison, promise their child the world and go back to the same old shit too many times. She needs to just think about staying sober and getting help for right now. Leah isn't going anywhere and when she gets a little older to understand why her mommy wasn't around, she will be thankful that she did what she did to get clean!
