My doctor told me...

Since I fractured my foot 3 yrs ago, I have had aches and pains. It started just in my hips, knees and only bothered me at night. But since this past winter, I have been hurting in my neck, shoulders, hips and knees also have had alot of headaches and trouble remembering things, expecially at work when my boss gives me something to do or asks for something, I turn around and start to do it and I forget what she said. And have a few episodes when driving when I've thought how did I get this far down the highway? Cannot remember passing landmarks . I'm so tired in the mornings, and I stay sick to my stomache a good hour after I eat a meal. 2 weeks ago at work, my hips and knees began to hurt so bad I wanted to cry when I tried to walk. All of this on top of depression. After the episode at work, I started to wondering, what is wrong with me? So, I began to do a little research, went to webmd.com and every sympton I checked, r.a. and fibromyalgia kept popping up. Now, I work in the medical profession, so I know most doctors think this is a wastebasket disease. I made an appointment with my family doctor, and went in - had to see the nurse practioner because the doctor was out sick, so, when the receptionist told me that, I'm thinking that might be better because she is a woman and women usually listen and understand better than men. HA WAS I WRONG!! She told me that every woman my age feels the way I do(I'm 35) but she would refer me to an orthopedic surgeon for an arthritis eval. Now, don't get me wrong, I'm not a doctor, but WTH? She did not want to run any lab work, just send me to an orthopedic surgeon for x-rays. I was so aggravated and I had to pay 95 dollars for that? So, back to square one and looking for any doctor. Sorry so long, I just want to know - do any of you that have been diagnosed think I'm crazy or do my symptoms sound familiar? Oh, and also, some days I feel perfectly fine, but the days I don't outnumber them.
Fibromyalgia: Fibromyalgia is a soft tissue form of arthritis that is due to defective neurotransmitter function in the brain. Because these neurotransmitters are responsible for many sensory functions, patients with fibromyalgia present with bizarre symptoms. It is imperative that other forms of arthritis be ruled out first.
Dear tdb, It is good that you are getting xrays because I have arthritis, bursitis, CFIDS and Fibro and everything else needs to be ruled out..
I came down with CFIDS the end of 1990 with flu like symptoms. My sister who is 16 yrs. younger than me was already diagnosed with it. My doctor kept trying to figure out what was wrong with me. My sister told me it sounded just like what she had when I told her about my symptoms and about the hurting. When I went back to the doctor I told him what my sister said. Honestly I swear his jaw dropped. He said you know I think she is right and it was right in front of my face and didn't see it. Then he began the testing to rule out other diseases. finally in July 1991 I was diagnosed. I worked for the Army as a Contracting Specialist. By 1994 I was going down hill and finally went out in 1995 and applied for disability. Now this is Federal Disability. I had forgotten how to do my job.
I have brain fog often now. And if I over do anything active I crash sometimes from days to weeks. I am on so many medications right now that by the time I take them I don't have much of an appetite. I also have diabetes.
I get steroid shots in my hips knees and in the sciatica nerve in my back.
A lot of Doctors still say it is a catch all I think when they don't believe in our illness. I have run into those too but thankfully my doctor was open minded. I also went to CFS conferences with my sister in Florida and learned a lot and met some of the researchers. I brought a lot if information back to give to my doctor. Once his nurse called me and asked if she could give one of their patients my phone number as she had CFS too and I knew so much about it. I told her yes.
I think if I were you I would go back to your doctor since you didn't get to see him in the first place and tell the receptionist you do want to see the doctor not the nurse practitioner.
I hope this helps some. Don't give up.
Wishing you good luck,
by DebiRobbinsJuly 21, 2008 at 8:26 AMGiven up on these drs and side effects of the drugs. Heard about Monavie. Something about the 19 fruits & wild berries from the Brazilian rainforest, packed with antioxidents helped with the symptoms. Got great results!
