Lawrence Wilkerson, the former chief of staff to Secretary of State Colin Powell, skewered Mitt Romneyâs foreign policy team on Monday, saying their policies make his stomach turn.
Wilkerson took particular aim at John Bolton, former President George W. Bushâs ambassador to the United Nationsâand now an adviser to Romney.
âThe man scares me to death,â Wilkerson, a retired U.S. Army colonel told MSNBCâs Ed Schultz. âHe would defeat all the enemies in America and the worldâand believe me theyâre plentifulâand heâd do it with everyone elseâs blood. John is like Dick Cheney, never served a day in his life and wouldn't serve a day in his life ⌠These people make me sick.â
Wilkersonâs harsh rhetoric comes on the heels of Romneyâs foreign policy speech earlier in the day, in which the former Massachusetts governor laid out a hawkish approach.
Without offering much in the way of specifics, Romney vowed to prevent Iran from acquiring a nuclear weapon, go after terrorists who attacked the U.S. consulate in Libya, and work to ensure Syrian rebels obtain arms to defeat Bashar al-Assadâs regime.
"Utterly unbelievable, Wilkerson said, blasting Romney as âoperating on a Cold War music sheet.â
Asked about former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeldâs endorsement of Romneyâs speech, Wilkerson declared that Rumsfeld, one of the key architects of the Iraq War âhas zero credibility with me and heâll never regain it again.â
I don't know what is about warmongers. Is there a Republican running for president that has retired or went in the military?
They wants our children to serve in war.
I am not sending my children to war. This is the 21st century. We came to America 600 yrs ago to wipe out the people of this land and now returning to those shores to do the same, because we don't like their way of life.
It shows Mitt's absolute and utter ignorance of the cultures of the Middle East. It's a TRIBAL culture, just as it was thousands of years ago. It will not change. One has to understand it, in order to not get us into a situation that is extremely dangerous for us.
All of the Middle Eastern countries have warred against each other for millenia. The ignorance of the American public still amazes me, and to have Mitt with his war-mongering when we haven't recovered from the damage the Bush adminnistration did, is so ridiculous. Obama is going to wipe Mitt off the floor on foreign policy.
