Punishing the whole 8th grade class?

Today was student election day in my daughter's school. She's in 8th grade and 2 8th graders were running for school president. Well one of the candidates was booed when he started his speech. The principle was floored and very upset. He let the class know they would all be punished.

Here the backstory.

Last year this boy held a position on student council, he was a 7th grader. He was removed f4om student council for sending racist memes, comments and pictures to an Asian boy in the same class. He was also suspended.

The school allowed him to run for student body president. Well that was clearly a bad choice.

My daughter wasnt one if thed booers, but Of course I talked to my daughter about mistakes and forgiving and bring being able to dislike a person while still feibg a kind person.

Bit, I really feel the school holds a huge part of the responsibility here. This child is a bully and had already been removed from council. He shouldn't have been allowed to run.

I have no plans to go to the school or complain about the punishment what so ever. I really don't care.....but im curious for your opinions.

Let it be. Lesson one life isn't always fair, and guilt by association is a thing.

The school should shun him and get it over with.

My daughter's school always punishes the entire class. I swear it's their school motto or something.

Well that's the title of the post.

Maybe you should change it to "should this kid get a second chance at student council"

Personally, I'd be disappointed in my daughter for not booing a racist bully.
