Mom Confessions
So I decided to actually check it this morning and got a message saying "Your refund has been applied to a past irs obligation" not a big deal since we knew we owed from last year. I'm just curious how long it will be before they deposit the rest into our account since we didn't owe all of it. It will feel so good not to owe them anymore though!!! Yay!!
!
ETA.....
Our refund was well over twice what we owed, and as of last night it still said processing so I am assuming that it is going thru the steps of taking their portion out. We filed on the 3rd so I didn't expect our part of it back for another few days at least.

Yes we added in the fees. and what we owed was less then half of our refund.
Quoting lnrmom:
This.
There should be a phone number you can call on Monday to double check.
Mine finally gave me a deposit date.
Quoting FooLynRoo:
dunno, but sounds like they took it all if you ask me.
when you calculated how much you owed did you include fee's and fines?

THen you should call them. I would have thought they said xyz was applied to your obligation and xyz will be depostied... but who knows.

Sometimes they do, sometimes they don't. But a letter will be in the mail with what was what within the next couple weeks.

Contact FMS, which is Financial Management Services for the Department of the Treasury @ 1 (800) 304-3107 and follow the prompts through the automated service. They should be able to tell you, if you're not already aware of what the amount should be, what the offset amount to your refund has been. From there, simply deduct that amount from your original refund estimate.
ETA--I am wrong and they'll only tell you the phone # of the agency that was able to request successfully an offset amount to be taken from your refund for a debt. FMS will not give you the actual amount taken out and neither will the IRS.

by AnonymousFebruary 9 at 9:33 AMSo it actually tells you that the refund has been applied to another debt? I'm SOO afraid that they are going to take my refund to cover my ex's debt.

I figure its just going thru the steps of them taking what we owe, it hasn't even been a week since we filed so I wasn't expecting it yet anyway. I was just kinda curious if anyone else had been through this.

If you call the 1-800 # I posted to the OP, you can find out the phone # of the agency that has requested an offset from the IRS. It will not tell you the amount of the offset, however and neither will the IRS.
But at least you can call to find out *who* has taken an offset amount from your refund and even call THEM directly.

It sure did. but its not showing the amounts. we knew we owed right at $2700 and thats less then half our refund so I am just waiting to see what happens with the rest.
