What does a humidifier do? I know its a machine you fill with water and it blows out steam, but what does it do? Clean the air? And what's the difference in a humidifier and a vaporizer?

It puts humidity into the air. It makes the air wetter.
I think they are the same thing.
A Dehumidifier takes the wet out of the air and makes it dry.
My son is allergic to dust mites and we have to keep the humidity below 50. We can't use humidifiers in the home. -
humidifier pumps moisture into an otherwise dry enviroment. helps to improve breathing. vaporizer allows you to add vapor rub, essential oils ect to be vaporized while working in a similar fashion as a humidifier but adding the vapors from said substances into the air as well like camphor or eucalyptus oil helps to reduce congestion while chamomile or lavender oil is calming.

Only dust mite allergies because dust mites drink water through their skin so they need it to be humid. They also like warmth so we have to keep the house under 75 degrees. They eat pollen, pet dander, and dead skin.
So we try to control the population. We can't get rid of them completely but it helps.
