Do all white people....warning...this may sound ignorant...ETA...ETA again

ETA 2
I know not all Caucasians are Americans. I know there's dark skinned French people. My grandfather is from France. He moved to Puerto Rico, got married and had my father. My father was born in PR and identifies with being a Puerto Rican. I was born in PR so I am Puerto Rican. My kids were born in America so they are Americans and they know their Puerto Rican culture.

I'm giving up now. Apparently, I'm stupid and I keep digging my hole deeper and deeper. I'm going to find a ledge now. See you later.

ETA
Ok now that I got you guys all riled up let me clarify a few things. I did put a warning and said that it was going to be ignorant...so stop telling me. I already know. Secondly I do know that not all "white" people have the same views as my "friends", they're actually dh's friends. My problem is not with being called Mexican, it's with being called brown. I am not brown. I do not refer to all "white" people as white because white is a fucking color. Just like "black" people are not black they're African American to me. No one is actually black. I refer to "white" people as Americans. If I'm really that curious I would just ask where they parent's are from and then I'll get my answer. Another thing that I do not like is when people say that they are Jewish. That's nice of you to tell me but I didn't ask about your religion...that's a whole other post.

So if you must, go ahead and continue to bash away.

...think that all spanish/hispanic people are Mexican? Do they all call us brown people? I'm Puerto Rican and I'm really light skinned. When I had blonde hair, people who didn't know me didn't know that I was from PR. My husband is Puerto Rican too but he's really dark compared to me. Our kids are in between. Lol. We have friends that are from the south, we live in NYC. When they came to visit us they kept referring to us as brown people. My dh had no problem with. I on the other did. A big problem. So to go back to my question. Do white people think that all Hispanics come from the same country? I do know not all white people think the same.

Honestly if I was her I would be mad. They are supposed to be friends and all. Seeing that they are guys and friends with her SO it might be a guy thing. My SO and his family are always making jokes about each other being gay (well some are) and they all see it as having fun and jokes. The first few times my SO was made fun of I was all o_0 but two years later I just see it as them having fun and ribbing each other. Hopefully it's the same with those guys and they really aren't being jackasses

    I'm aware I'm American-Latina American too be exact! ;-)

The term HISPANIC or LATINO is the CORRECT term of description/ categorization. Where did I say you had to guess anything about anyone? Hispanic or Latino is not insulting and it covers a wide range of nationalities-so I can't imagine anyone would be offended if you referred to them as such.

Spanish is INCORRECT and TOO NARROW of a description as it only refers to people from SPAIN.

I'M NOT FROM SPAIN, I'm ECUADORIAN AND PUERTO RICAN-There is A DIFFERENCE (in culture and dialect-among many other things).

However it seems based off of the fact that I may appear how one would describe a Latino person-you would STILL choose to describe me as Spanish

Its not about what I like-its about CORRCECT vs INCORRECT. The term you choose to use is INCORRECT. However you're right about one thing-I don't have to like it. And I don't. I do however like to help ignorant people every once and a blue. Most people are open and receptive to learning something new.

You seem to be pretty content with your ignorance though so-good for you! ;-) Have a lovely evening =)

Except its american. I'm not from england therefore am not english.

If you were born here then you're american too.

Its not ignorance, but I'm not going to guess where people are from since odds are I would be wrong .spanish is an easier way for me to describe people seeing as they speak spanish. I also call anyone that looks asian as asian. I don't really care if you don't like it.

    Quoting TresHijas111825:

Ignorance is bliss for you then I suppose? I understand why did it before-but now that you have been presented with facts-why would you continue to do it?

I am one of "them" and my paternal grandparents came to the US from Ecuador and my maternal grandparents came here from Puerto Rico-both speak Spanish AND English.

My parents and myself were born here (USA). I speak Spanish (but not fluently-my first language is ENGLISH) and I consider myself Latina . "They" don't all speak Spanish. There are many people who identify as Hispanic/ Latino who speak very little or no Spanish.

Perhaps I should call you English then because that's the language you speak?

    Quoting MyGirlsAbbyLiz:

But they all speak Spanish.hence why i call them Spanish

    Quoting TresHijas111825:

Spanish people are from Spain. I'm not trying to be difficult but this term is incorrect. People of Spanish descent from the Caribbean, Central and South America SPEAK Spanish but are typically referred to as Hispanic or the (currently) more politically correct term Latino. =)

    Quoting MyGirlsAbbyLiz:

i just call them all spanish.

I am white. I refer to Hispanic people as Hispanic. The only person I've ever heard describe a person as brown were children.

You can call white people white, that is what we are. You claim you call white people Americans but your post is calling them white people so that is interesting.

My DH is black and refers to himself as such. I don't know a single black person who gets mad if you call them black.  White and Black have become acceptable terms. Brown is not one.

The Jewish comment, just wow! I have no word for that.

I agree with your last ETA you do keep digging yourself in a deeper whole. Please stop talking!

You do know that someone saying that they are Jewish doesn't always tell you what their religion is right? LOL

Why would you refer to white people as Americans but black people as African American? In doing so it separates us into a separate group as if we are not just American. As far as "no one is really black", to me being black is a cultural state of mind rather than an ethnicity.

I think many people view Latinas as brown because most have a hue to their skin tone which closely resembles q light to dark brown. If people called you yellow it would most likely offend you because of the stereotypes that goes along with it. In my opinion people are people and once we stop segregating ourselves into subcultures we will be better off.
