How old do you have to be to collect Social Security, what's the youngest age?

    62 if you want to collect early and be penalized, mine is available to collect when I am 72. Each generation has a different age of eligibility.

    Just wondering, a friend asked me. So 62 is the youngest, how do you get penalized?

    If they have a legitimate mental or physical disability, or a child with those conditions then they are able to collect at any age. However the process is very long and often difficult.
