How can you check your own cervix for dilation? Is everyone's fingers long enough to check?

    Quoting Anonymous:

Lol well this post is keeping me from cleaning my house but it was nice chatting with you!

    Quoting OkieOBRN:

Nope, thats a "i fail at using this phone" term... ugh

    Quoting Anonymous:

Is that a hospital term? I don't follow.

    Quoting OkieOBRN:

    L

    Quoting Anonymous:

NOTHING goes in my asshole. You understand?

    Quoting OkieOBRN:

    Yep! I couldn't imagine!

    Quoting Anonymous:

    That's some sick shit.

    Quoting OkieOBRN:

Mildly off topic..but did u know in the past labor nurses were only allowed ti check a cervix ANALLY? seriously..it was thought too much bacteria could be introduced vaginally and the anal mucosa protected against that. Crazy right!?

    Quoting Anonymous:

No haha I just wanna know if I'm dilated.

    Quoting OkieOBRN:

Ok.. make sure there is zero dirt under his nails or around his cuticles... scrub. Then cut his nails super short..

    Then... dont do it!

Do u think ur in labor?

    Quoting Anonymous:

He'll wash his hands lol it'll be ok!

That's what I'm asking you. What should he be feeling for?

    Quoting OkieOBRN:

No! Why introduce bacteria? I strongly doubt he knows what your cervix feels like.

    Quoting Anonymous:

Should I have mydh check because he would know what feels normal and what doesn't

You would just be increasing your risk of infection.

Umm the weirdo is a trained professional who knows what hes doing... You dont. Do you not have an OB? If you do, Im sure he will have his hand up there more than once, same with nurses. Do you really think theres more of a chance of them introducing bacteria than you doing it?? Do you live in a sterile house?

    Quoting Liyoness:

Every woman should be 'trained' to check her own cervix. Why would you want some weirdo with a rubber glove to introduce bacteria instead?

    Quoting Robsessed98:

Unless youre trained to do it correctly, why would you even try?

Trying this at home is a stupid idea. Just ask your doctor.

    Quoting lovnmy3boys:

So why not have your Doctor do it??? Would you even know what you were trying to find??

    Quoting Anonymous:

To see if I'm dilated. Lmao

    Quoting lovnmy3boys:

Um, why would you want to? On second thought... never mind... :)

You don't need to do that......

If you are not trained, then you can cause a bunch of problems......and honestly, if you're NOT dilated and you go in there feeling around..... it could cause you to dilate!

I have been taught while in nursing school..... however, I've never even done it on a patient and I definitely wasn't going to do that to myself.

Call the dr and let them check you!!!!

It's sad that so many think it's dangerous and unnecessary to feel how dialated you are. Most of the home birth stories I've read have mothers checking their own cervix and even breaking their own water. We really need to get back in touch with our bodies. I'd google it.
