    Eh. One could argue that modern fashion is the most oppressive of all.

    Of course it is.. it opresses men! They can't ogle goodies if they are all covered up... (sarcasm)

    I am an American Muslim, I wear a hijab and I do not feel opressed in any way. Liberated actually, because at least when you speak to me you have to look at my face because there is no where else to look.

    That's ridiculous. I agree that it can be if a woman does not want to follow a faith that requires or request being covered to that extent but I am a firm beleiver that women should be able to choose what they want to wear.

    Excellent point, although I want to point out that the vast majority of times *I* have heard this notion of it being oppressive, it's from feminist groups.
