What's the deal about preteens & teens (12 & up) drinking coffee? I mean, my parents never told us we couldn't and I've been drinking it since I was 10, it never hurt me or my siblings.

I have seen parents give their Kids , pepi, coke, mountain dew etc. And that's ok. Mountain Dew has a ton of caffeine in it, so why is that ok, but coffee is so wrong. At least the coffee has some health benefits.

And for kids who have ADHD or other issures it can be a help. I have bad allergies and my brother has asthma. When we were kids we'd drink coffee to help with the symptoms.

That's my question. Why do you think some parents give kids other drinks with sugar, corn syrup and caffeine, such as Mountain Dew, etc, But Coffee is a big no no ?

I can't have caffeine or sugar..so I ask before ordering anything I'm not sure of. As a result my oldest will ask 'Does this have any caff-fane in it' (she says it so country). She refuses to drink anything with caffeine and when they go my inlaws you can tell when they have broke out the coke. One night our youngest screamed (happy scream) and oldest talked from their house to ours!

So we are use to no caffeine. I do remember drinking a cup of coffee with my Dad (who was a trucker) and smoking my crayon (my pretend cigarettes..lol) when I itty bitty.

ROFLMAO...Did you not pay any attention to what you claim he said? He called parents deluded if they believe that caffeine is doing their children any good. That is him assuming that everyone is like him.

Yes thanks for noticing my reading comp. issue....much appreciated... and oh I didn't know you know me that well!!!! So when did you start living in my home? Like I said HE has fewer effects from the adderall than caffeine. Doesn't mean that everyone else is like him.

He has tried coffee to help with his ADHD...and it's HIS experience that the side effects...sweaty,racing heartbeat and headaches when coming down from the caffeine is not worth it to him,the side effects with him and Adderall is 0, it just helps him to focus and concentrate better than coffee.

And btw I formula fed all three of my girls after three months of breast feeding, not my first choice but that's how it worked out. So I wouldn't generalize people because they formula fed their babies.

ETA: Calling people ignorant makes me think that maybe you're the one who is ignorant. So sorry you feel that way about yourself and had to take it out on someone.

I asked my husband today, he has ADHD,severe in fact, if he would try coffee instead of the adderall he flat out said, "Adderall" coffee has too many side effects compared to the man made drug. And he quoted also, "just because coffee is natural doesn't mean it's good for you, cyanide is natural,so is heroin, cocain, marijuana, and for the moms that give their kids ANY form of caffeine, you are deluded if you think it does your kid good." end quote. So from someone who suffers from ADHD well there you go I guess.

Your husband needs to do a little research because it is very obvious he doesn't know what he is talking about. Why bad side effect of coffee does he think coffee has? Why does he falsely believe that coffee has "too many" side effects when compared to a schedule II narcotic? Has he even bothered to research the benefits of drinking coffee such as it has been found to lower the risk of getting colon cancer?

ETA: Your husband reminds me of the ignorant people who claim that formula is better than breast milk for babies because it is man made.

You have a serious reading comprehension problem going on. I never judged anyone for formula feeding their babies. I spoke specifically about those who say that formula is better then breast milk because it is man made.

Also, you and your husband can't assume that because he has zero side effects from adderall that all children also have zero side effect, or at least fewer side effects than they do from caffeine. He is the one who is deluded, and so are you.

no. not a joke. i grew up drinking coffee with my mom and dad. my 19 year old drank it when she was younger at her dr advice, to help with her adhd symptoms and my 15 year old drinks mountain dew non stop. I dont see what the problem is with them drinking caffienated beverages. Good heavens there is caffeine in chocolate......

I'm not really sure. I drank coffee as a child and I think I've turned out pretty good. Of course, my drink of choice is either coffee or mountain dew, but I'm still ok. Lol
