I am a nurse and I had the patient from hell today (I have to post anon so that I am not violating HIPPA laws)

I have my BSN (bachelor's of science in nursing) and I work on a great labor and delivery floor. For the most part, I get great patients, their families are usually wonderful and often by the time the mom delivers I do get connected to the family. Usually, I LOVE my job but oh my goodness, today I had the patients from hillbilly central. I kid you not, the mom of the patient was there with her DH who also happened to be the brother of the patient's dad ( so the woman left or was left by the father of her child and then got with his brother). Then I find out that the father of the baby (who was there) was the son of the girl's step dad  making the father of the baby her cousin and her step brother. Then the patient's sister came with her 4 kids, not one was over 6 and everyone thought it was funny that they were running around the room with no shoes on and adorable when "JR went and done crapped on the "terilt" "JR looked to be about 4, I sure as heck hope he is "crapping on the "terlit""). But then in walks the patient's dad, who, as it turns out was especially excited to be there because this is the first one of his grandchildren he is going to be around for the birth because he just got out of prison. It was bad because when you work labor and delviery, you usually only have one or two patients but you are with them a  LOT, between checking contraction, doing vital signs, keeping an eye on the baby's heart rate I am in the room more then out of it so I was got to spend the WHOLE DAY with these people!!! YAY FOR ME Just when I thought it that this was the epitome of white trash ( I am white, I can say white trash) the parents of the baby's father came (mom got there a bit before dad) and they were a fun bunch. You see mom and dad are getting divorced because dad was cheating on mom with the neighbor who I swear was a big as a house (meanwhile the dad's mom looked pretty good, can't figure that one out) and he was considerate enough to bring his mistress to the hospital, long story short, I had to call security on the mistress and the baby's grandfather and they have to be escorted out because the mistress was threatening the wife saying that she (the mother of the father of the baby) had no right being there and she should stay away from "her man". I would just like to say that if you go to the hospital to visit someone, PLEASE, for the love of God, don't ask their nurse, don't ask her to check your mole, especially a mole that is usually covered in clothing, just sayin. I need a drink, if you read all of this, thanks for hanging in there.

LOL. I love when my DH comes homes from the hospital with similar stories. He is an ER doctor and is contracted with a rural heath loan repayment program. Which means we DO live in hill billy hell. He feels so sorry for his nurses that have to get to 'know' the patients that are crazy! He at least has the excuse of being the only doctor on call and is to busy to talk...lol
