How do you keep your kids calm and cooperative at the dentist?UPDATE 8/26
August 21, 2013 at 3:45 PM

Thor is 17YO and  we know there is a problem. Family DDS suspects  impacted tooth but needs an xray to prove. Thor would not cooperate at all for any treatment. We are seeing a new DDS on Monday but he may need to be put under for a simple xray!! Relaxation meds have no affect on him at all. I hate that he may need to be put under for something so simple,I also hate that treatment is being delayed until we know what is really wrong.

Thor went for an xray today he did well with dad and no dedation. We live in Ohio and needs to go to Ohio State University for treatment

They used to use a papoose board on Elijah- we go to the children's hospital dentist... Now he responds pretty well to bribery.

I hope you can figure out what's going on with Thor!

They do lap to lap with Ethan, and allow me to hold him for xrays as well. He still yells, but no tears, just mad

    Ugh, hit submit too soon

Is there any way if the tooth is impacted, they would remove it right away? If so, that would make being put out worth it, imo

My kids beg to go to the dentist, lol they 100% love going. When my ldest 11 now had to get her 13 yr molars capped at the age of 9 (yes she had 13 yr molars at 9) she actually got them at 8. lol She was super excited to go. My 5 yr old had a few cavities done at 4, and loved it too.

So I have no idea. lol

I tried making the appointment with the oral surgeon today, they want xrays. Not sure if it is to confirm or insurance purposes.  I hate putting him out but if needed make it worthwhile not just for an xray. Thor would barely open his mouth for any type of exam/treatment.

I totally understand. Can you pitch a fit to someone else?

    Pray...
My oldest (7) loves the dentist. My other 2 (3 and 5), not so much. Dental X-rays are pretty quick and painless. Would he do it if you did it first? Not the whole X-ray if course, but just to have that thing in your mouth and show him it won't hurt? That's how we got our dd to do it last time. Do you go to a specialist?
Honestly, if nothing works, I'd let them out him out. It'll still be quick and I doubt he'd be out more than 15 minutes or so. I know it seems silly to have to do it for something so simple, but if further treatment is waiting on this X-ray, then I think it'd be worth it.

Right now Jacob does well in my lap, but we have a dentist with hospital privileges so when the time comes we can go that route.
