Smell. Plugs suck for that reason alone! I hate that I was a nutbag and stretched them so young, I wish I could wear pretty earrings. :(

I was really into piercings when I was younger, I am so glad I never stretched my ears or got any dumb tattoos! I do have some wicked scars on my collarbones though so I can relate.

I guess it depends on what size you've stretched to but I have heard of people using flesh colored silicone plugs/retainers, then popping an 18g earring into them with success. Might be a solution?

They make really pretty plugs though. I found some really sweet rose ones cut from this really pretty white stone.
