The feds are currently digging up a field in Oakland Township in Michigan looking for the remains of Jimmy Hoffa.
They have been looking for him/his remains since he disappeared in 1975. I understand why they would be looking before, but it has been almost 40 years and still they are spending tax payer dollars to look for someone who has been dead for so long.
I understand the family needing closure and I would NOT feel this way if they were searching for the remains of a child who was murdered 40 years ago, but this was a known mob associate.
I just think that it is ridiculous to continue to spend the tax payers hard earned money when that money could be better spent looking for missing children or others who could still be alive.
Do you think it is ridiculous to continue the search after so long? What would you rather that money be spent on?
Is Anyone really sure who is actually "Paying for This Particular Dig This Time"?
I'm not trying to be a Smart ass; but I guess I am just so desensitized to them "Digging Him Up" or "Him Not being Dead" or "Whatever New Story " that gets hatched & thrown back into the limelight every few years or so.
Being that there are Various Television Networks out there that show, Exhuming Dead Bodies, Police & Vigilantes, Murder & Mysteries, Unsolved Disappearances, Unsolved Murders, Whatever Happened To ?, Crime Lords, etc. ; The List Goes On.
I see it very possible that any one of those Networks, if not more than one; offered funding assistance to have their Name associated with something of that magnitude.
Especially if he is Finally Found.
Plus, there are tax write offs for these Companies/Networks; maybe they can get to put it on a segment of one of there shows or at least get some footage, etc.
Also, there are Grants out there ; where people & even private & public agencies can apply for various types of assistance with funding.
There are also Angel Investors:
Private Companies or Individuals who decide they would like to invest in a particular Project, Business/Company, etc.
Or maybe His Family retained enough money through their own Personal Wealth or through Fundraising, Donations, etc.
Just my thoughts....

The Perp is probably dead at this point, as well as most of his relatives. In addition, there would be little to no useful forensic evidence left. Cause of death would be impossible to determine unless there was obvious trauma to the skeletal structure and that would be either pre or post mortem, very hard to determine. Any murder weapon has probably long been disposed of, but I suppose anything is possible.

I realize it seems crazy, but it is the government's responsibility to solve a murder. The statute of limitations never runs out on murder. Those who did it are probably still alive and need to be put away. If Jimmy Hoofa were your dad, brother, Uncle, son, etc., whether or not he was a mobster would not affect you wanting his murderers brought to justice, Just having an association with the mob doesn't mean you yourselve have killed anybody. As a US citizen you have an association with the US military. If one of our soldiers commits a war crime, you aren't guilty of it, he individually is. The mob got involved in the unions because the companies had the money to hire thugs to beat up and kill protesting workers. The mob provided the workers with some strongarms of their own. Learn your history and maybe you will understand the who, what and why of Mr. Hoffa. I hope they do find him so that he, like every other murdered human being, gets a final resting place. It is also a mystery, Like what happened to Amelia Erheart. He disappeared in broad daylight. And, no more money would have to be spent looking for him. ;)

Its not the government's responsibility to solve all murders, just those within federal jurisdiction. I'm sure this poses an interesting challenge though, being an "infamous" mystery. And Hoffa was indeed, a crook.
