So my mom was over when I was cooking dinner a few weeks back. She saw me washing my rice and thought I was being weird stating "she never washed rice"
I didn't grow up washing rice. I never saw my friends families do it either, but when I moved to florida I started meeting people who did.
My son's god mother (who's cuban/puerto rican) and her family always washes the rice
My son's god father (who's puerto rican/japanese) and his family always washes the rice
My husband's mother (who's Nepalese) always washes the rice.
So which is it ladies, do you wash or do you think it's not needed?
I do, just to get the starch off. It is very important to do so when making things like sushi. There is one exception for me, and that is if I am making risotto.
