TACOMA, Wash. - A man accused of child sex crimes is being allowed to watch child pornography inside the Pierce County Jail in Tacoma, Wash.

Marc Gilbert, 50, is accused of sexually assaulting young boys and videotaping the abuse. Because he's chosen to act as his own attorney, he has unlimited access to that pornographic footage, which is considered evidence in the case.
"Make no mistake - I don't like it," Pierce County Sheriff Paul Pastor told komonews.com. "But it is not my choice whether to do it or not to do it. There's no question that I don't like it. There's no question that this makes me grind my teeth."
Gilbert, who appears in several of the videos, was charged with child rape, child molestation and sexual exploitation of a minor in 2007, after the brother of two alleged victims called police, ABC News reported.
Investigators seized from Gilbert's possession more than 100 DVDs containing 28 hours of pornographic footage, komonews.com reported.
Witnesses told ABC News that Gilbert, 50, would give the boys alcohol and spank their bare buttocks. In several cases, prosecutors told ABC, Gilbert allegedly engaged the teens in masturbation, oral sex and anal sex.
The prosecutor and the sheriff said a legal loophole has allowed Gilbert access to the porn while in jail, and that the state Supreme Court has affirmed his right.
"We don't like it. We don't want to do it, but we have to follow the law. The fix here is to change the law," Pierce County Prosecutor Mark Lindquist told komonews.com.

it's very wrong..but I guess legally there isn't anything they can do, since he is acting as his own attorney..my thoughts, he is acting as his own attorney just so he can watch the videos because he knows he will be going away for a VERY long time..Doesn't make it right.. This is the FIRST time I have EVER said this, but I hope he "accidentally" gets his ass BEAT every day while in jail...

Wtf!! This is ridiculous! Can't they close the loophole? And why in the hell would the State Supreme Court allow it?! So now he can watch over and over all the things he taped himself doing to those poor boys!

Wrong on so many levels! -
They are working on closing that loophole. I think it is so very wrong. I think we need to go as far as saying if you are charged with any sex crime you should not be able to represent yourself. We had a case a few months ago where a rapist was representing himself. One of his victims came close to jumping off the roof of the courthouse because she was so scared of having to talk to her rapist in court while he grilled her about the events.
