I do appreciat all the work that went into the post for all the different state requirements.
When I decided the online public school was not helping my dd, I called the state and all I had to do was file an affidavit. Nothing else was required. The dept. of ed was very nice on the phone. I was afraid I was calling the Gestapo at first, but not at all! it was a relief to find out I was able to parent my dd even in California.
California gained a reputation for being hard to homeschool in based on one bitter divorce case. HSLDA jumped on their paranoia filled bandwagon claiming the judge declared homeschooling illegal. The judge while erring in his understanding the educational code in CA, had no right to declare anything illegal. His ruling absolutely only affected the family involved in the divorce.
