Many books and textbooks can be bought with a CD or online version with someone reading the text.

Teaching textbooks and math u see, I think these use dvds / cdroms.

I think IEW has dvds. There are plenty of books as audio.

SOTW is available on audio for history.

Apologia nad a few science programs have dvds and/or audios.

Her daughter record herself reading and play it back?!

Have you looked at your local library? They will sometimes have what you are looking for?

For our language arts/language I purchased Songschool Latin.  I'm using it for third grade, but the first book is also for second.  It's incredibly fun and sets each group of words to a silly/energetic song.  We've already listened to the cd multiple times! :)
