How is a beka for K? Do I need to order the parent kit to go along with it?

If you used a curriculum for K, what did you use? I made my own for  now but we have just gotten so busy. I think something like this might be easier for now.

Im also curious about timberdoodle. Help!

You don't need the parents kit but I got it.
I like abeka for our core subjects of phonics/language arts, writing and math.

Does the parent kit just basically give you suggestions of how to use the program? What is actually in the parent kit?

It's the teacher manuels. There may be the game sheets to but I don't remember. I got them because I was still new to homeschooling but I'm on my 3rd kid now and don't need them as much.

I have heard that A Beka is really boring for a lot of people.

    we don't like abeka.
It's alot of busywork and seat work. Marcus is super hands on and active so we went with heart of dakota. But you could easily do your own curriculum.

We use ABkea.  I have only had to use the teacher manuals to grade a few sheets.  This is however my 2nd child in K, so I didn't need them as much this year as last.  I probably won't use the 1st grade ones as much next year either.  We LOVE ABeka.

I've used timberdoodle for kinder & 1st grade and will use it again for 2nd grade. I really like it. I supplement with my own science though....for first grade, it comes with an astronomy book. My daughter really enjoyed it, but we couldn't focus on one topic for the entire year. Their history book is amazing (I know its called history of the world, but I can't remember who publishes it). I like the math too (again, I can't remember what its called).
