DS is doing CLP Our Fathers World and its just not "enough". We are breezing through because he knows the concepts and at a page a day (2 or 3 days a week) its just not meaty. The History for Little Pilgrims is the same way.
I don't have a ton to spend, though. Maybe $80 between the two. My first thought is Magic Treehouse and Magic School Bus books and just have fun....Anything thing else to recommend? Buying used is fine!
We have really been loving Apologia Science! My kids are very into any type of animals and also astronomy right now. We are learning so much from them right now!
They run around $25ish n CBD.com. the part I like best about these books is the fact that they are are good for -6 grade.
Have you tried to supplement from your local library? They should have some books that you can use to fill in wherever you think its a little thin in your learning. :) You might also want to check out any craft stores in your local areas.
I was told that elementary level science is just a bit of the major high school sciences and you teach bigger chunks every year. So I just bought experiment books for each of the main sciences and we will try to teach more and deeper looks into the subjects each year.
We are trying the story of the world next year. We'll also supplement from the library whatever they are most interested in.
and enchanted learning has lots of worksheets for science that you can make unit studies out of, it does cost for a year, but worth it!! also you can use some of there stuff without buy the subscription
what i do for science at that age is check out experiment books, and we take an animal/insect/bug/etc a week and learn about it, i make a large one(draw it) drawing the body parts and we put them together (learning the names of the parts) with those brad thingsy, we go outside and try to find some, learn what they eat, where they live, what they are good for, etc right now with a 5 yr old we are doing lady bugs(cuz shes been asking about them)
