Not a very good day... for this mom.
October 28, 2011 at 12:12 AM

So, the lady at the front desk at the Board of Education was right on.. She told me that the people there probably would Not help me with answering any questions I may have about home schooling.. She said that they would only help me to pull her out from Public.. She was RIGHT on! I have no clue how to find out if my child has to take a yearly test... ? Not even the main lady here in Kentucky will call me back nor will she email me.. I am beyond stressed. They love to make things for me difficult. I am feeling very under the rock here.

here's the link to the site where i got my info

    1. Homeschools are considered non public schools (basically calling you a private school)

    2. Every year, at the start of the school year, you have to send in your child's name, birthday and address of the kids

    3. You have to teach as many days as the public school

    4. You have to maintain an attenence record and grades for each term (Report cards in the same interval as the local school district (6 or 9 weeks)

5 You need to 'teach' reading, writing, spelling, grammar, history, mathematics and civics.

There are several free grade tracking programs on the Web (I believe one is called Homeschool Tracker). Also go to Donna Young .com. She has free planning pages and tips. All sorts of goodies! Free!

Barnes & Noble has grade/attendance books, too.

Tell us what you got so far and maybe we can help you. Are you still trying to swim though all the billions of curriculum? 8)

HSLDA's page on Kentucky. Links to laws and organizations, plus some legislative stuff.

Google "Kentucky homeschool" and see what other resources you find.

Ky is pretty relaxed. Visit those links above and you will see the requirements. Then just get started! They don't like it when we pull them out, less funding for them!

Okay! I got information that I do not have to test her.. That everything is all up to me to do! Yay! They absolutely hated it when I pulled her.

I will be testing her... just not having to take her anywhere to be tested. This is such a blessing to get to do.

In KY you are not required to test your children. RELAX MOMMA!
