To start off I want to say we DID have an awesome wonderful Christmas (even my poor mom who was a wonderful little sport agreed she thought so too despite the accident.)
As we were walking into our son Elijah's place where we celebrated with a feast and gift exchange, my mom (who hasnt' the greatest balance and has horrible reflexes) /it wasnt icy she just tripped/ fell flat on her face right on the cement step, there was blood all over the step and her face and throat and it peeled a big chunk of flesh off her cheek. My husband and dad rushed her to ER. Her catscan and xrays said no broken bones and no concussion thank goodness. They put in a couple dissolvable deep tissue stitches and used some surgical glue on the surface (she has like tissue paper thin skin so its hard to stitch). They gave her antibiotics and vicodin.
Her hands are also black and blue and her knees are too and they have abrasions also.
2 of our daughters burst into tears the minute they saw she fell and got hurt but once she got back from er and they saw she is ok and was all smiley they were ok too and we ended up having a wonderful evening after all.
My poor little mom though.
Hope she feels better and the painkillers really work. My grandmother fell in the bathroom her last mothers day and burst her forehead on the side of the tub. My father had left to bring her, my aunt and cousins to mum's for our mothers day luncheon. Instead she went to hospital for stitches and we all nibbled a few bites halfheartedly and visited her after she got home that evening. Her entire face was swollen. But she was a tough old girl, tried to smile, and thanked God that nothing was broken.
Awww your poor grandma thank goodness she didnt get a concussion or worse
Yeah my mom was a great sport too, she never complained and was all smiles and said she still had a wonderful christmas other than getting hurt.

I guess she even tore part of the muscle in her cheek it was so deep peeled back and they said she very well may need to talk to a plastic surgeon. She'll see her own dr in her own town in a few days for a follow up but she said its looking pretty bad and not healing very well. Poor little thing.
I was surprised bc she landed right on her face about a year or so ago after she fell face first off a bicycle and had to go by ambulance and the er poeple thought she was in a motorcycle accident she looked so horrible it was shocking how bad she looked. Half of her face was so pitch black they had to keep checking her at the hospital every few days to make sure her flesh wasnt rotting (it didnt but looked like it). And she healed so miraculously perfect from that she didnt even have a scar left I was amazed so we were surprised she's not healing as well with this one so far.
But who knows maybe that will change?
