Diarrhea?!?!
December 4, 2012 at 6:34 PM
Dd is 3 1/2 months old and she has had diarrhea for a week. Started out with a fever also but the fever stopped after 2 days and diarrhea continued. Dr says they can't find anything wrong. She's having 5-7 diarrhea diapers a day. What could be going on?

How is she fed?  Could she be allergic to something?

Formula fed. She's been on Enfamil Prosobee for almost 2 months with no issues.

It could just be a tummy bug - it went through our house a few weeks ago.  It was about 5 days of diarrhea with nothing else.

Of course, my kids are a bit older, but the pedi said that as long as they're acting normal and there aren't any signs of dehydration, there wasn't much they could do.

I'd just keep an eye on her and make sure she stays hydrated for a few more days!

Walgreens is the only place that carries it, but similac makes a ready to use called DF (diarrhea formula).  It thickens the stool and slows down the transit in the bowels.  We used it with both of our kids from time to time when they had diarrhea from a stomach bug.  You don't want to use it at the beginning of the illness, but when its the linering diarrhea from the intestines trying to heal themselves from the bactera/virus, its really helpful.  We used it for a few days each time and it worked like a charm.

Sounds like a nasty tummy bug.  Hope she feels better soon!

Maybe its just the consistancy of her BMs now?  My one child, as a baby, never had a more solid BM they were all watery.  He was formula and breastfed.

A virus can mess up the intestinal flora.  You might want to add a probiotic into her diet to help restore the good bacteria.  This one can be mixed into her formula (it says it's for ages 0-5).

    That's great information to have!
