How far in advance do you find out your next duty station?

Less than three weeks. My husband got accepted into a special program, and orders were cut immediately! -
We just found out Friday that we are moving to San Antonio with a report date of July 1st! So... like 9 months???
When he was in Korea we had a 14 months notice, because we knew before he left where we were going. When we moved here to Scott from Jersey, we found out on Halloween and had to be here Feb 1st... so 4 months??
IDK how yall did it with that short notice!! Yall are my heroes!! Im sitting here now thinking of all I need to get done for next summer! LOL!!

It varies. Depends on the branch of service, servicemember's rate, and how desperately a position needs to be filled. We've found out anwhere from 9 months to 3 weeks (current one was a week an a half in regards to the transfer date, not duty station - wasn't happy about it OR prepared sice it was originally 3 months down the line).
My advice: Don't be surprised by anything.
